NOAH BEIGELMACHER

Noah is a native of Brooklyn, New York, which he is proud of and wonders how much irreversible damage it has done to him over the course of his lifetime. He is a two-time graduate from The New School, first from The Riggio: Writing and Democracy Honors Program, and from the MFA Creative Writing Program. Noah nerds out over food, obsesses over the New York Rangers, and equally loves and hates the NYC subway system. Noah’s favorite form of meditation is running, during which he sings to himself and considers ways to be a better human being.

HOW I CHANGED MY WEEKEND, AND MADE MYSELF A HAPPIER PERSON

I believe that everyone is a bit of a multiple personality. I believe that within all of us, there are multiple versions of ourselves, and they’re constantly battling each other to see which version of ourselves is going to take over our body at any given moment of any given ...

HOW TO BEAT THE MONDAY BLUES

I don’t trust anyone who claims to like Mondays. I consider myself to be an upbeat person, and am more than willing to find the positive in any scenario, but when it comes to Mondays, I am just as bitter as anyone you’re likely to meet. I wake up in ...

    Put Down That Takeout Menu

I used to joke that when I move into a new apartment, the first thing I do in scoping out a new neighborhood is getting familiar with all the local takeout places. Besides finding my supermarket, my Laundromat, and any other things in the area, the most important thing to ...

LIVING ABROAD: WHY RETURNING HOME IS THE SCARIEST PART

When I knew I was going to leave New York City to live in Israel for a year, I did whatever I could to prepare myself. Leaving my job, getting rid of my apartment, and saying goodbye to family and friends was much easier than I thought it would be. ...

Why I'm happy when my friends move away

I was devastated the first time a good friend of mine moved away. I don’t know how old I was, but I was young enough to still be in elementary school. It was my best friend. Best Friend in the sort of way where we had ridiculous inside stories we ...

The Staycation: Why It’s Amazing, And How To Get The Most Out Of It

It’s easy to hold tourists in contempt. They’re usually slow, usually clueless, and more often than not they are in your way. But one of my dirty little secrets is I’m actually jealous of tourists. While they are slow and clueless, and in the way, they’re also seeing New York ...

Why Casual Dating Is Completely Normal And Healthy

The dating world has taken a lot of criticism recently. Tinder is the scapegoat for everything that’s wrong with romance in this day and age. According to some, the invention of that phone app has triggered the destruction of intimacy and neutered our abilities to have genuine romantic connections and ...

Why I Left Online Dating, And How My Relationships Improved

I remember way back when the smartphone was in its infancy. Apple had launched the iPhone, and while most were initially awestruck by the capability of this device, others saw it as an overpriced gimmick that didn’t have enough function to be essential to people's lives. There was a particular ...

How Hummus Made Me Homesick For Living Abroad

Food is social. Food is meant to be shared. Anytime I have a meal by myself, it feels like it’s a meal more of utility and necessity than pleasure, and on some level, that saddens me. While we physically need to eat, our devotion to the art and science of ...

When It’s Okay To Turn Down A Promotion

It’s always a big deal to get offered a promotion. It’s a recognition of the hard work you’ve been putting into your job, and you’re being rewarded by being given more responsibility, a higher position, and of course, more money. Any way you look at it, being offered a promotion ...
